One of boxing’s true icons 🥊 The last of the original ‘Four Kings’ of boxing, Big George cemented a legacy larger than life itself. His interests and influence extended far beyond the sport, venturing into business, politics, writing and fashion. In the ring, he was an Olympic gold medalist, two-time world heavyweight champion, and Hall of Fame inductee. George first claimed the world heavyweight title off Joe Frazier in 1973, coining one of boxing’s most famous three words: “Down goes Frazier”. Then, following his shock loss to Muhammad Ali in the ‘Rumble in Jungle’, George decided to hang up his gloves in 1997 to become an ordained Christian minister. Almost 20 years on, George came back to beat Michael Moore for the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight championship titles, becoming the oldest ever world heavyweight champion at 45 years old.
